You just need to turn the Unity plugin back on. The problem is this is a pain in the bottom because you've now got no graphical method to do this. So:
- Try to open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T.
This may not work but you can try right clicking on the desktop and selecting "Open terminal here." Otherwise, you may need to change to a "hard" terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1and log in. - Install
compizconfig-settings-managerby runningsudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager - Then run it with this:
DISPLAY=:0 ccsm
